SEPULTURA's Webmaster On IGOR CAVALERA's Status: 'Either You Do It Right Or Don't Do It At All'
January 18, 2006SEPULTURA's official webmaster Estevam Romera has confirmed in an online posting that drummer Igor Cavalera will not be joining the band on their upcoming European tour (as exclusively reported by BLABBERMOUTH.NET on January 13).
Responding to a fan question regarding the lack of an official statement from the band addressing the situation, Romera wrote, "[I] haven't mentioned anything about Igor because [the band] asked me to wait for an official statement. But you already know everything, he is not going to Europe and that's it. He is not leaving the band.
"I don't like to get involved in this part of the band's business. I used to, but it's worthless...
"This is my opinion here! This is what I'd think if I was him...
"2005 was a big year for Igor, a lot of stuff changed in his life... new wife, new kid. And he is also getting involved with other stuff. Igor [was] always the guy that listened all kinds of music, and I think it's natural for him to try new stuff. He's been doing the same stuff for 20 years now and maybe he thinks it's time for a change. The guy is almost 40, has three kids and he didn't see any of his kids growing up because he was on the road playing for the fans. Maybe he feels it's time to take a short break and be with his family and kids. And we HAVE to respect that. It's his life... nobody has the right to control his life or anyone else's. But he needs to remember there's three other people involved in this band and sometimes you can't just do something and leave the others waiting for you.
"SEPULTURA has always been a band of attitude and passion for music. I'd rather see they split than doing it with no passion at all. This is my opinion. Either you do it right or don't do it at all."
As previously reported, Cavalera became a fourth-time father on Sunday (Jan. 15) when his second wife, Laima, gave birth to the couple's first child, Antonio Leyton Cavalera. Both mother and son are said to be doing fine. Igor has three children with his first wife, Monika.
SEPULTURA will be joined by former SOULFLY drummer Roy Mayorga on their European tour with IN FLAMES. Mayorga, who played with Igor's brother Max for several years in the late '90s and again in 2001-2003, may stick around for further touring activities beyond the spring.
SEPULTURA's European tour will not be the first time that the band have performed without Igor Cavalera. Back in April 2005, SEPULTURA completed a short tour of Mexico with the help of roadie Guilherme Martin (ex-VIPER, TOYSHOP) after Cavalera was unable to make the dates.
